English

English at Beauchamp is taught by specalists and those with interest and expertise in the subject. We believe that English underpins the rest of the curriculum and we aim to develop pupils' skills in speaking and listening, reading and writing, in line with the National Curriculum.

In Years 5 and 6, work is based on the National Literacy Strategy and in Years 7 and 8 we follow the KS3 Literacy Strategy guidelines. Pupils are grouped in a variety of ways and lesson activities include class, group and individual work using a range of fiction and non-fiction texts. Drama takes place within English lessons. We also teach research and library skills so that pupils are able to source and locate information quickly.

We operate a number of extra curricular clubs including drama and bibliophiles. Pupils have the opportunity to see productions by visiting theatre companies and to visit theatres taking part in their own drama productions.

Our annual inter-house Read Out competition, which involves reading and performing poetry, is always popular and successful.

With experienced and enthusiastic staff, up to date resources and good results in external tests the English Department has a lot to offer your child.
